Group Accident Insurance

Group Accident Insurance

Overview

Accidents are just that — accidents. You can't plan for them. But you can protect yourself financially as much as possible.

Tell Me More

The Aetna Accident Plan helps to fill financial gaps caused by expenses related to an injury caused by a covered accident. Cash benefits are paid directly to you, no matter what is covered by your medical plan or any other insurance. Choose either the High or Low plan option that best suits your personal needs (payout differences and premiums will vary between the plans). Benefits are paid for:

  • Initial and follow-up care
  • Medical imaging and X-rays
  • Hospitalization and surgeries
  • Dislocations and fractures
  • Physical therapy and more

Your plan also includes an Organized Sports benefit that pays an addition 25% if you are injured while participating as a registered member of an organized sporting activity. Benefits can be used to pay expenses like coinsurance, deductibles, or everyday expenses like mortgage payments, childcare, or groceries. It’s up to you. See the attached benefit summary for details of coverage, including limitations and exclusions. You can enroll yourself, yourself and child(ren), yourself and spouse, or your family in this plan.

Please review the benefit summary under Learn More for a complete list of covered accidents and injuries and the payout differences between the High and Low plans. Both plans cover accidents like burns, lacerations and fractures. You can also learn more by visiting aetnaresource.com/n/Henkel.

After you become a member, you’ll enjoy an Aetna Simplified Claims ExperienceTM on the My Aetna Supplemental app, or on our member portal at Myaetnasupplemental.com. Filing claims is easy; just answer a few short questions online. You can also view your coverage and sign up for direct deposit. If you’re also an Aetna Medical plan member, our system retrieves medical information needed to process your claim. That’s less paperwork for you. Don’t have Aetna Medical? No problem, just upload or take a picture of your medical bill. You can also print and mail a paper claim form to Aetna Voluntary Plans.

  • How can this help me?

Most families don’t budget for the costs associated with accidents. If an accident does occur, the last thing on your mind is the charges accumulating while at the emergency room:

    • Ambulance ride
    • Use of the emergency room
    • Surgery
    • Crutches
    • Stitches

These costs can add up fast. Most families have medical insurance that will cover a majority of the expenses. But most medical insurance plans have deductibles and co-insurance you will need to pay out of your pocket. But, what about the out-of-pocket medical expenses, such as lost wages you or spouse/domestic partner loses when out of work or staying home to care for an injured family member? You hope that an accident never happens, but at some point you very well may take a trip to your local emergency room. If that time comes, wouldn’t it be nice to have an insurance plan that pays you a benefit regardless of any other insurance you have? This plan does just that, providing a cash benefit to cover the costs associated with unexpected covered accidents.

  • Who is eligible?

You can sign up for coverage for yourself and your eligible dependents during your new hire enrollment eligibility period, during the annual enrollment period or if you experience a qualifying life event. No medical questions are asked. The plan is designed to complement, not replace, major medical insurance.
  • When can I enroll?

All eligible employees can enroll during annual enrollment. New hires can enroll during their new hire enrollment period. You will not be able to enroll outside of your new hire enrollment period or annual enrollment unless you experience a qualifying life event, like marriage, birth of a child, etc.
  • What if my employment status changes?

When you leave or retire from your current employer, you can continue your coverage without interruption, subject to applicable law and the plans' terms and conditions. Although payroll deduction will no longer be available, you can pay Aetna directly. Portability forms are available at www.myaetnasupplemental.com or call Member Services at 1-800-607-3366 for assistance.
  • Will my rates increase as I get older or if I file a claim?

No, your rates will not increase due to age, health or individual claims.
  • Will I have to take a medical exam to get this coverage?

No! This coverage is guaranteed-issue (which means you may qualify for coverage without having to submit to a medical exam or answer health questions).
  • What types of accidents and injuries am I covered for?

Once you’re enrolled in this coverage, you’ll collect benefits for a variety of events related to a covered accident, including

    • Fractures
    • Dislocations
    • Second and third degree burns
    • Torn knee cartilage
    • Concussions
    • Cuts/lacerations
    • Eye injuries
    • Coma
    • Extractions and crowns

You’ll also receive a lump-sum payment when you have these medical services/treatments related to a covered accident:

    • Ambulance
    • Emergency care
    • Exploratory surgery
    • Physician follow-up visits
    • Crutches
    • Physical therapy
    • Animal bite treatment
