Group Hospital Indemnity Insurance

Group Hospital Indemnity Insurance

Overview

If you become injured or ill and are hospitalized, your health insurance will pay a portion of your costs. But no plan pays for everything. Your share of the hospital bill, including coinsurance, copays and deductibles could be costly—let alone the extra out-of-pocket expenses that might occur.

Tell Me More

The Aetna Hospital Indemnity plan pays cash benefits for covered hospital stays for an injury, illness, surgery, or to deliver a baby. It pays lump sum benefits for an inpatient hospital admission and daily stays. It also pays benefits for inpatient substance abuse, mental illness and rehabilitative stays. The money can help offset the hospital bill, take care of day-to-day expenses, or pay for anything you need. Plus, this insurance offers these advantages:

  • Pays a benefit of $2,000 once per plan year if admitted to the hospital.
  • Pays a daily benefit amount of $100/day/hospital stay. This lump sum cash benefit is paid directly to you (unless otherwise assigned) and is paid in addition to your medical insurance.
  • Pre-existing conditions are not excluded. (Please note that the hospitalization must occur after the coverage effective date for benefits to be paid.)
  • You are guaranteed to be accepted into the plan with no medical questions or exam.
  • Flexibility to use the benefit money to address out-of-pocket-expenses like transportation and meals for family members, help with child care, or lost income from missing work.
  • Ability to keep your coverage if you leave your employer (with certain stipulations)

You can enroll yourself, yourself and child(ren), yourself and spouse, or your family in this plan.

  • How can this help me?

The plan pays cash benefits directly to you. This means that you will have added financial resources to help with medical costs or ongoing living expenses. Plans are designed to provide you with a lump sum cash benefit to help you cover out-of-pocket medical and other expenses caused by a hospital stay.
  • When can I enroll?

All eligible employees can enroll during annual enrollment. New hires can enroll during their new hire enrollment period. You will not be able to enroll outside of your new hire enrollment period or annual enrollment unless you experience a qualifying life event, like marriage, birth of a child, etc.
  • What if my employment status changes?

When you leave or retire from your current employer, you can continue your coverage without interruption, subject to applicable law and the plans' terms and conditions. Although payroll deduction will no longer be available, you can pay Aetna directly. Portability forms are available at www.myaetnasupplemental.com or call Member Services at 1-800-607-3366 for assistance.
  • Who is eligible?

You can sign up for coverage for yourself and your eligible dependents during your new hire enrollment eligibility period, during the annual enrollment period or if you experience a qualifying life event. No medical questions are asked. The plan is designed to complement, not replace, major medical insurance.
  • Will I have to take a medical exam to get this coverage?

No! This coverage is guaranteed-issue (which means you may qualify for coverage without having to submit to a medical exam or answer health questions).
